How Do You Design Emotion Into a Brand?

IFT British Section Webinar

Everyone in marketing agrees that emotions matter. The challenge is knowing how to systematically design them into brand strategy, communication, products, packaging and every touchpoint — so that the entire brand speaks the same emotional language.

In this IFT British Section webinar, Dr. Constantinos Pantidos, Founder of BRAND AVIATORS® and creator of THE WHEEL OF MOTIVES®, explores how emotions work in nature and how the same biological principles can help us build more meaningful and distinctive brands.

The presentation examines how the brain continuously and automatically interprets signals, creates routines and assesses whether what it encounters is consistent with what it expects from a brand. When those signals feel coherent, they reinforce recognition and choice. When they do not, the brain can disengage from the brand story and shift toward more rational comparison — price, features and technical characteristics.

Drawing on biology, affective neuroscience, biosemiotics, sensory science and brand decoding, the webinar introduces THE WHEEL OF MOTIVES® and explains the evolutionary role of motives in driving human behaviour.

Flavours, shapes, colours, textures, words and sounds are not neutral. Nothing is without meaning. Each can act as a signal that the brain interprets, consciously or unconsciously.

Against a marketing landscape often dominated by subjective interpretations of emotion, the approach presented here provides a structured framework for bringing greater order, consistency and scientific grounding to emotional brand building.

The webinar presents the two interconnected parts of our work:

  1. Unlocking Brand Emotion — identifying the deeper motivational and emotional meaning that makes a brand distinctive.
  2. Bringing Emotion to Life — translating that meaning into communication, products, sensory experiences, packaging and other brand touchpoints.

The presentation concludes with application cases showing how these principles can move from theory to practical brand and innovation decisions.

From understanding why emotions drive behaviour to designing brands that consistently embody them.
