The Crave Code: Unlocking Desire Through Texture, Taste & Truth

IIEX Asia Pacific 2026, Bangkok

IIEX Asia Pacific 2026, Bangkok

We know more about consumers than ever—through data, research, analytics and technology. Yet we often seem to understand less about why particular brands and products become deeply desirable.

At IIEX Asia Pacific 2026 in Bangkok, Dr. Constantinos Pantidos, Founder of BRAND AVIATORS® and creator of THE WHEEL OF MOTIVES®, explored this “Insight Paradox” and proposed a different way to bridge the gap between what consumers can tell us and the deeper forces that shape what they feel and choose.

Most brand strategy draws on cultural insight, semiotics, trends and stated consumer responses. BRAND AVIATORS® adds another layer upstream of strategy, branding, innovation, advertising and design: evolutionary biology, affective neuroscience and the pan-human emotional systems that influence choice before conscious interpretation begins.

These systems were wired long before brands, language, culture or consumer opinions existed. Understanding them provides a deeper structure for emotion—helping explain why certain meanings resonate and how that understanding can become a more stable foundation for strategic and creative decisions.

Drawing on 11 years of research across thousands of neuroscience studies, hundreds of categories and more than a thousand brands, the presentation introduced a brand paradigm based on how the brain categorizes, simplifies and decides.

At its heart is THE WHEEL OF MOTIVES®. The methodology begins by decoding the emotional dynamics of the category and uncovering the brand's distinctive motivational core. Their intersection reveals a territory the brand can authentically own—turning an understanding of emotion into strategy and positioning.

But the process does not stop with defining what the brand should stand for. The next question is more demanding:

How should consumers actually experience that positioning?

This is where the Semantic Brand System takes the motivational territory downstream, translating it into a coherent language capable of guiding communications, concepts, product truths, formulations, textures, packaging and multisensory experiences. Strategy and execution are therefore not separate exercises: they become different expressions of the same underlying emotional meaning.

Using Activia as an example, the probiotic yoghurt category was decoded around the motives to FEEL SAFE, TRANSFORM and BALANCE, while the brand's distinctive emotional territory was identified around TRANSFORM. From that strategic foundation came an extraordinarily tangible question:

How should Activia feel in the mouth?

The answer required translating an abstract brand meaning into specific principles of texture and sensory experience. In doing so, the case demonstrated the complete journey from human motivation, to brand positioning, to a physical property of the product itself.

Emotion is therefore no longer something communicated around the product, intuitively added by creatives or measured after development. It becomes something that can be systematically operationalized—from understanding the deeper motive, to defining the territory a brand can own, to designing that meaning into what consumers see, hear, touch, taste and experience.

Additional examples from Asian markets illustrated how the same logic can travel across categories and cultures while producing very different expressions.

The Crave Code ultimately connects two worlds that businesses often keep separate: what a brand means and what a product feels like.

From understanding desire → to defining a territory → to designing that desire into the experience itself.
